A BASE jumper has died after falling during a jump from a popular spot for thrill-seekers.

The 28-year-old German man fell to his death on Sunday while base jumping in Gimmelwald, Switzerland.

He was jumping with a friend at the time of the incident.

Details of the Incident

The man jumped from the Nepal Bridge in the Lauterbrunnen district before crashing into the rocky terrain below.

A missing person report was filed with the Bern cantonal police after he fell.

A police spokeswoman told German media outlet BILD: “We found a person below the jump point.”

Recovery Efforts

She added, “The man could only be recovered dead by the emergency services.”

Authorities stated that the man had been at the bridge with a colleague.

The friend reportedly jumped first, followed by the German man.

Investigation Underway

For reasons unknown, the 28-year-old lost control during the jump and crashed into the cliff face below the bridge.

The police spokeswoman said, “The investigation into the cause is now underway.”

She also mentioned, “The equipment will also be examined.”

Rescue Operations

According to local police, the Nepal Bridge is a popular launch point for thrill-seekers.

Helicopters from Air-Glaciers and Rega, along with specialists from the Swiss Alpine Rescue, were sent to assist police.

An investigation by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office is ongoing and is being led by the Attorney General of Switzerland.
