Nigel Farage has introduced Laila Cunningham as the candidate for Mayor of London. She aims to tackle the “crimewave run by foreign criminal gangs.” This announcement comes as the Reform party prepares to challenge Sadiq Khan in the 2028 election for City Hall.

Criticism of Sadiq Khan

Farage criticized Sadiq Khan for allowing a rise in crime. He stated, “Laila Cunningham has already proven in her time with us as a party to be articulate, to be passionate, a mother, somebody who actually herself has had to effectively in the absence of the police, act as a police officer herself in defence of her children.”

Laila Cunningham’s Experience

Cunningham, a Westminster councillor, has shared her experience of gathering evidence against a masked gang that targeted her children after police refused to investigate. She will also lead Reform’s efforts in the borough elections this May.

Commitment to Fight Crime

Cunningham declared she would be “a new sheriff in town” and would launch “an all-out war on crime.” She expressed her love for London but noted, “London, one of the greatest cities on earth, is no longer safe and that didn’t happen by accident, that happened on Sadiq Khan’s watch.”

Cunningham, who has become a prominent figure in the Reform party, mentioned that the capital is facing a “rape epidemic.” Farage supported her statement, saying, “London is now in the grip of a crimewave run by foreign criminal gangs, many of whom have come to this country illegally and frankly should not be here.”

Farage believes that the Reform party can succeed in the 32 borough elections on May 7. He sees these victories as a stepping stone to winning the next general election. The Reform party is currently leading in national opinion polls, and Farage is considered the favorite to become the next Prime Minister.
