Four people were hospitalized following a fire that severely damaged a home in Consett, County Durham, on January 2.
On Friday morning, January 2, a fire broke out at a three-storey home on Richardson Way in Consett, County Durham. Four people were taken to the hospital due to the incident.
Emergency services, including Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, North East Ambulance Service, and Durham Constabulary, arrived shortly after 9:30 AM to control the blaze. Thick smoke was seen rising from the roof of the house.
A cordon was established around the area, and firefighters are expected to return in the coming days to assess the building’s safety. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire but do not consider it suspicious.
Images from the scene show significant damage, with charred windows and a destroyed roof. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service reported that they received a call at 9:31 AM regarding the fire and dispatched two ambulance crews along with a Hazardous Area Response Team.
Four individuals were transported to the University Hospital of North Durham for treatment. The fire service confirmed that three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were deployed to the scene. They left the area around 2:34 PM but will return to ensure the building’s safety.
Durham Constabulary also confirmed their presence at the scene, stating that the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
