Greenwich Hosts Big Local Plan Community Assembly

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is hosting a Big Local Plan Community Assembly on February 7 at Woolwich Works from 11am to 3pm. This event is part of the ongoing consultation on the borough’s emerging Local Plan.

The half-day event is open to all residents and people working in the area. It will explore key issues affecting Greenwich’s future. The aim is to set clear and shared strategic priorities.

Comments from the Leader

Anthony Okereke, leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “Our plans are bold and we know we can’t do it alone. That’s why we want to hear from as many people as possible because no one knows the borough better than the people who call it home.”

He added, “We want to build nearly 45,000 new homes and create thousands of jobs – that’s not a small feat, so we want to know how you think we can do that. Greenwich is the place to be – it’s growing, exciting and bold. That’s why we need a plan to match, and you can help us get it right. Anyone can get involved in this, either online or in person at our Big Local Plan Community Assembly.”

Details of the Draft Local Plan

The draft Local Plan sets out a blueprint for future development. It is organized around eight themes: Places, Housing, Economy, Town Centres, Design and Heritage, Environment, Climate Emergency, and Transport. It also identifies areas for potential development and considers how new growth can be supported by appropriate infrastructure.

Incentives for Participation

Attendees who become Assembly Members will receive complimentary experiences at cultural and leisure sites across the borough. These include Woolwich Waves, Woolwich Works, and one of the borough’s many museums.

Residents interested in participating can register for the Community Assembly through the council. Feedback on the draft Local Plan can also be submitted online. Further details are available on the Royal Greenwich website.

Comment Deadline

The deadline to comment is Sunday, February 8. The Local Plan will ensure that the right development is put in the right place, with the right support behind it.
