In Walsall, a horse’s body was found abandoned on Slacky Lane with ropes tied around its neck and legs, raising concerns for its treatment.
A horse’s carcass was found abandoned on a grass verge in Slacky Lane, Walsall, on Saturday, December 20. The black and white horse had blue rope binding its legs and another rope wrapped around its neck. RSPCA investigators believe the horse was transported to the site in a trailer or lorry, secured to a post, and then carelessly removed from the vehicle.
The RSPCA confirmed that the horse showed no obvious injuries. It remains unclear whether the horse was alive or dead when it was abandoned. RSPCA animal rescue officer Georgie Mackie expressed sadness over the incident, stating, “It’s incredibly sad to think this poor horse had died and then those who were meant to care for them just dumped their body for somebody else to deal with in such a public place.”
Mackie added, “While we do not know the cause of death, or if the horse was dead or alive at the time they were dumped, we’re keen to find out more about the circumstances.” The RSPCA is seeking information about the horse’s owner and the circumstances surrounding its disposal. Anyone with information can contact the RSPCA at 0300 123 8018, quoting incident 01700561.

A representative for the RSPCA noted that it is not uncommon for equine welfare charities to receive reports about abandoned or dead horses. They highlighted that the cost of disposing of a horse’s body often leads to such incidents. Reports of animal abandonment have increased significantly this year, with a rise of over 23 percent in the first ten months, resulting in an abandonment incident reported every nine minutes.
