Two major motorways are experiencing significant delays due to a cattle truck crash and an oil spill.

M1 Closure in Leicestershire

The M1 in Leicestershire is closed northbound between Junction 23 and Junction 23a. This closure follows a collision involving a cattle trailer.

Leicestershire Police are on the scene after the trailer overturned between the junctions at Loughborough and the A42/M42 East Midlands Airport. Traffic officers are also present to assist with traffic management.

M56 Delays

On the M56, two lanes are closed westbound between Junction 12 and Junction 14 after a lorry overturned yesterday evening. Drivers are facing delays of more than 90 minutes due to a diesel and oil spillage on the motorway.

Currently, there are seven miles of queues approaching the lane closures, according to National Highways.

A sweeper and a sander are on the way to treat the spillage. The road will need to be assessed for resurfacing after treatment.
