A lorry fire on the M1 near Northampton has closed lanes, causing severe delays and six miles of congestion, with drivers advised to take alternative routes.
Severe Disruption on M1 Due to Lorry Fire
A fierce lorry fire has broken out on the M1, leading to two lane closures and significant disruption.
The M1 southbound is at a standstill because of the lane closures between Northampton and Milton Keynes.
Half of the lanes are closed in that section, with images showing a lorry engulfed in flames at the roadside.
Emergency services are on their way to the scene.
Initially, all lanes were shut, but two have now reopened.
National Highways East stated: “Traffic has now been released in lane 4 on the #M1 southbound between J15 (#Northampton) and J14 (#MiltonKeynes).”
“All other lanes remain closed at this time while the fire service continues to work at the scene.”
Drivers have been warned of a one-hour delay and six miles of congestion approaching the fire site.
Motorists are advised to “consider alternative routes.”
