Severe Disruption on M1 Due to Lorry Fire

A fierce lorry fire has broken out on the M1, leading to two lane closures and significant disruption.

The M1 southbound is at a standstill because of the lane closures between Northampton and Milton Keynes.

Half of the lanes are closed in that section, with images showing a lorry engulfed in flames at the roadside.

Emergency services are on their way to the scene.

Initially, all lanes were shut, but two have now reopened.

National Highways East stated: “Traffic has now been released in lane 4 on the #M1 southbound between J15 (#Northampton) and J14 (#MiltonKeynes).”

“All other lanes remain closed at this time while the fire service continues to work at the scene.”

Drivers have been warned of a one-hour delay and six miles of congestion approaching the fire site.

Motorists are advised to “consider alternative routes.”
