Tragic Death of Stephen Jones After Christmas Eve Crash

A father who “meant the world to his family” has sadly died following a crash on Christmas Eve.

Stephen Jones, 33, died when his Ford Puma collided with a grey Audi A4 in Croxteth, Liverpool.

At the time of the accident, Stephen was driving his partner, 34, and their son, 8. The collision occurred at the junction of East Lancashire Road and Stonebridge Lane.

Stephen was taken to the hospital but sadly passed away on January 3.

His family is receiving support from specially trained family liaison officers.

A 32-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested at the scene. He has been bailed and is under investigation for causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Investigation Details

“Our thoughts remain with Stephen’s family at this tragic time,” said Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy from Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation unit. “We will continue to support them throughout this investigation and seek to provide the answers that they need.”

“Stephen’s family and friends are devastated. He was clearly loved by those closest to him, and his loss is felt much wider across the local area due to his involvement in coaching children’s football.”

“Although a man has been arrested, this is a fast-moving investigation with numerous lines of enquiry being followed. Eye witness accounts and dashcam footage are key to the investigation. I urge anyone traveling in the area of the M57 or East Lancashire Road around 8:30 PM on Christmas Eve to contact my team as soon as possible.”

“I would also like to thank members of the public who stopped at the scene to provide first aid and assist the emergency services.”

Condition of Family Members

A 34-year-old woman, Stephen’s partner, remains in serious but stable condition in the hospital. Their eight-year-old son suffered minor injuries.

Family Tribute

Stephen’s family paid a poignant tribute to him. “Stephen was a loving son, brother, partner, uncle, but most importantly a dad, a role that meant the world to him,” they said.

“He was a friend and a lifelong Everton supporter who was filled with a passion to help people. His love for coaching children’s grassroots football meant he made a difference in many lives.”

“Stephen’s death will leave a void for many people that won’t ever be filled. He will be missed deeply but loved forever and always in our hearts.”
