A Norwich grandfather won £10,000 monthly for a year in the National Lottery, allowing him to reduce work hours and spend more time with family
Norwich Grandfather Wins £10,000-a-Month National Lottery Prize
A lucky Brit has won a life-changing National Lottery prize on his third attempt. This win allows him to spend more quality time with his family.
The £10,000-a-month jackpot means the Norwich grandfather can work less and spoil his grandchild. He changed his strategy by buying a Set for Life entry at a local store, using his own numbers instead of a Lucky Dip selection.
The father-of-two will receive the payment every month for a year. He described winning the prize as ‘surreal.’ He said, ‘I woke up to check the ticket the day after I won, just to double check I wasn’t dreaming.’
Reactions and Other Winners
Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at Allwyn, which operates the National Lottery, praised the win’s timing. He said, ‘What a fantastic story, and great timing for our new grandparent, who I bet can’t wait to spoil his new grandchild rotten. He’s earned his reduced working hours and the chance to spend more time with the family.’
The man from Norwich was not the only winner. A sign-making business owner from Exeter became a millionaire after picking a scratch card at random from his neighborhood shop.
In August last year, a Glaswegian mum-of-four won the £10,000-a-month Set for Life prize. Olivia Love, 36, quit her supermarket job to pursue her dream career as a wedding content creator.
Olivia said, ‘I’m not used to having any money. I’m used to having literal pennies left in the bank. I feel less anxious because I don’t have to worry about the bills.’ She added, ‘I still feel a bit nauseous if I’m being honest about it, especially when I think about how much money it is. Suddenly having thousands blows my mind.’
Lottery Winners and Their Challenges
Olivia can feel nervous because winning the lottery isn’t always the ticket to happiness. History shows many winners whose lives took a turn for the worse after winning a large sum of money.
Some studies suggest lottery winners in the US are more likely to declare bankruptcy within three to five years compared to the average citizen.
Unclaimed Prizes and Upcoming Draws
There are many unclaimed National Lottery prizes, including a £10 million winning ticket purchased in November in Bexley, London. The mystery winner has until April to come forward.
Since August last year, six tickets worth over £14 million have gone unclaimed. You can check the list here.
Last night’s £36 million EuroMillions jackpot rolls over to Friday after no winner was announced. However, one person won £140,047.40 after matching the five main numbers but not the lucky stars.
