New Royal Wedding Venue Planned at Dumfries House

Couples-to-be can book their own royal wedding at a new venue planned at The King’s Foundation headquarters.

The charity, founded by King Charles in 1990, is building the events space at its 300-year-old Dumfries House home.

The King’s Hall Details

Named The King’s Hall in honor of the monarch, the single-storey extension will be added to the east wing of the house. It will feature a 282 square meter public hall, accommodating up to 200 guests.

The foundation aims for the Scottish venue to become the “go-to venue for high-end, luxury weddings and private events” by its planned opening in 2027.

Design and Sustainability Features

The design will match the existing house’s architecture, using the same techniques and locally-sourced materials. In line with the charity’s principles of “harmony and sustainability,” it will have heat pumps and biomass boilers. Menus will showcase organic food and locally-sourced produce.

Event Hosting Capacity

The charity predicts that the new space will allow Dumfries House to host five or six large-scale events each week, compared to the current average of one or two.

Proceeds from the venue will support the conservation and development of the house and estate, as well as the foundation’s education programs and community initiatives.

Statements from Officials

Evan Samson, general manager of Dumfries House, said: “One of the challenges for us in recent years has been the lack of a large-scale events and entertainment space that fits the aesthetic of such a historic building.”

He added, “This new venue will give us a unique offering that will become part of the house, appointed and furnished to luxury standard.”

Building Techniques and Materials

Gordon Neil, executive director of The King’s Foundation, stated that the new space will be a “true testament” to the monarch. It will incorporate “traditional crafts and locally-sourced building materials.”

He explained, “We’ve used a local quarry to mine the stone and utilized the same building techniques as those used to build Dumfries House 300 years ago.”

History of Dumfries House

Dumfries House, located in Cumnock, East Ayrshire, was built between 1754 and 1759 for William Dalrymple, 5th Earl of Dumfries. The house and its contents were purchased for the foundation with the King’s help in 2007.
