A 2-year-old girl died after falling into a pond at her family’s home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, on Christmas Day despite rescue efforts
Inquest into Death of Two-Year-Old Girl
A tragic incident occurred on Christmas Day when a two-year-old girl died after falling into a pond, despite her family’s efforts to save her, an inquest revealed.
Isobel Maxwell was playing with her toys at her parents’ new home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, when the tragedy happened. Family members found her in the pond after realizing she was missing.
The inquest heard that her loved ones attempted CPR before paramedics arrived. Isobel was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary but was sadly declared dead an hour after being found.
During the inquest at Doncaster Coroner’s Court, Isobel’s father confirmed her identity. Senior coroner Nicola Mundy adjourned the case until September 14 for a full inquest.
Isobel’s parents had recently moved into the home and did not install the pond themselves. There was temporary fencing around the pond, but Isobel managed to get through it.
After the tragedy, Isobel’s mother, Tamara Wallace, expressed her love for her daughter. She said, “Isobel my sweet, sweet girl, our hearts burst with love for you, this is never a goodbye as we know you are near, mummy and daddy will see you soon.”
Tamara added, “Everyone who knows Isobel and us knows how gifted she was and that she lived more in her two years than some children do in a lifetime.”
Isobel’s aunt, Abigail Maxwell, started a GoFundMe appeal to cover funeral and counseling costs. She described Isobel as “the happiest, smiliest, most adventurous & curious” little girl who “lit up the lives of everyone.”
Abigail stated, “All of us are absolutely heartbroken. As you can imagine, this is the worst possible thing that could ever happen to parents, to lose their baby. She was so happy, so loved & they were the best parents who gave her the most wonderful life.”
Isobel fell into the pond while the rest of the family was inside the house.
