A woman was dragged to the ground and mauled by a dog while its owner appeared to freeze in shock. The incident occurred on a residential street in Halliwell, Greater Manchester, on Wednesday.
Video footage shows the victim walking down a street when a dog, which seems to be on a leash, charges at her near a park on Wolfenden Street. The dog knocks her to the ground as the owner tries to regain control but fails.
As the woman attempts to escape, the dog forcefully knocks her down again. Eventually, she stands up and leaves as the owner seems to regain some control over the dog.
The incident was reported to Greater Manchester Police around 2:50 PM. A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that dog attacks are a recurring issue in the area. He expressed feeling more unsafe now than in the past.
He said, “It’s disgusting how unsafe it is for people from the local schools and mosques.”
Halliwell Councillor Safwaan Patel commented on the attack, saying, “We have been made aware of a dog attack on a lady in Halliwell. We have contacted the police to report the incident and have also shared the footage. We have been in touch with the family to advise them on the next steps. Please stay safe if you are going out this evening.”
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police stated, “A report was made of an out-of-control dog biting a woman on Wolfenden Street in Bolton on Wednesday, January 7. The victim suffered minor injuries. No arrests have been made and work is ongoing to locate the dog.” The breed of the dog has not yet been confirmed.
